Unit 4.4 – Choose the Best Solution

Sketchup Design

Using Sketchup (either downloaded or online version), create a complete, detailed and accurately scaled birdhouse based on your research and the criteria and constraints previously outlined.  These may include (but are not limited to):

• Design limitations or inclusions based on the type of bird chosen
• Time allotted for design
• Available materials

Your design should include the following attributes:

• Accurate scaling (sizing)
• 3-dimensional materials (make sure walls have THICKNESS as well as length and width.  You will be using 1×8 lumber (nominal measurements) which actually measures .75″ x 7.25″.  You can assume that you will cut the panels appropriately.  Your wood should be exactly 3/4″ thick and never wider than 7.25″.  Remember that you only have 48″ of lumber length.
• All individual components (walls, roof panels, etc.) are designed as GROUPS or COMPONENTS.
• All dimensions required to construct the house are included.
